Appropriate canine training is important in ensuring that your home environment remains peaceful for your dog and for yourself. I would like to offer the advice in this article as an exceptional place to start your training strategies. I invite you to keep reading for advice on training your dog. Proper dog training requires generous rewards that are given correctly. The quantity and actual timing are important when it comes to rewards. By giving treats at the proper time, you’ll ensure that your dog understands which behavior it’s being rewarded for. Give the reward as soon as the desired behavior is completed. You can use a few tricks when crate training your dog or puppy. If the dog doesn’t want to go inside the crate, put a rawhide bone or some other treat in there and shut the door. If a dog sees something in the crate that they want, they will desire to enter it. When they go inside to get the bone, give them lots of positive reinforcement. Continue your introduction to the crate gradually.
TIP! By giving your dog the proper amount of rewards, you’ll have an easier time training. Giving you pet treats in a timely manner is very important.
Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isn’t tempted to chew other things that aren’t okay to chew. If the dog does chew on something inappropriate, replace the item immediately with one of the dog’s own chew toys. If your puppy seems to be suffering a lot from teething, a frozen washcloth to chew on can give him some relief. Dogs only have the ability to focus on one thing at a time. Canines don’t multitask well. Once your dog knows his attention command, you will be able to get him to ignore almost anything as he focuses on you. Consistency is critical for potty training to succeed. When your puppy gets out of its crate he will need to relieve himself. Eventually, the puppy will learn to wait to pee until given the opportunity. Be sure to give him enough opportunities. When it’s time to introduce house training to your dog, put him on a consistent schedule of eating and elimination. This will help you know when you have to take your dog outside, before he ruins your carpet. Being consistent will teach the dog to hold it until it is time to go outside.
TIP! When training your pet, you must be patient. You will not get frustrated or mad and neither will your pet.
As the dog gets better at training, you can let it have more freedom. You will find your dog to be more obedient and your dog will be happier. Just be careful that you do not allow too much freedom, too quickly, as this can quickly derail your hard work and training. If you need to approach a dog that you are not familiar with, approach it slowly and allow it to sniff your hand. The dog will become familiar with your smell and recognize the scent in the future. Once a dog is used to your scent, it will trust you and obey your orders. When training a dog, be sure you get their attention the same way. Try to use the dog’s name in the start of the command. Secure the dog’s attention and then state what you wish him to do. Usually, dogs quickly respond when you use their name and are aware you want to get their attention. Mastering the “leave it” directive is an excellent starting point for your training sessions. This command instructs the dog to release an object and then retreat from it. This can help get your dog to stop chomping on your belongings and help keep them safe from hazardous materials.
TIP! Don’t spend too long on a single dog training session. Devoting lengthy amounts of time to any particular aspect of training will have your dog feeling distracted and bored.
If you plan on housebreaking your pet, you must work hard to avoid any preventable mistakes. Watch for signals that your dog has to go out to relieve himself. He could be snuffing, pacing or even whining. Don’t put it off when your dog is doing these things. Put your dog on a leash and take him where he should go. Praise them for going to the bathroom properly. That means that you need to stay outside with him so you will know when to praise him. He will soon learn how to ask for the bathroom. Regardless of your dog’s age or personality, the tips in this article can help. After following the advice, it is important to be patient. Hopefully, you can soon have a better relationship with your dog. Tug More Learn More DVD/Book Set

Hurricane Meets Her Match

It finally happened! My hyperactive non-stop dog finally met her match. His name is Ayden and he is my six year old grandson. Ayden played fetch twice with Hurricane today until the dog couldn’t go any further.

She went to sleep early tonight. She was out for the night by 8 PM. Tomorrow she will be ready to go again but my grandson will be going home after church and the job of trying to give her exercise will be mine again.
I know that puppy training can be very specialized. Some are trained to hunt, work, protect, or just to be more pleasant. Did you know that dogs want to please their master. This is one of the things that makes them a great animal to have around. I would certainly hope this article gives you the tools you need to train your dog. It is important to make sure to let your pet know a crate is their home initially. Whenever it’s time for them to eat, place their food bowl into the crate and leave the door open when eating. This will help him associate good things with his crate. Don’t try to force the crate on your puppy quickly.

I would say that if you plan on using a crate as part of your puppy’s training routine, introduce the apparatus and its’ functions very gradually. Once your puppy feels comfortable in the open crate, close the door and offer the dog a treat. Leave them in for short periods of time, as little as 10 seconds to begin with. Work up from there. If you find that your puppy gets upset, then you may need to slow down and have more patience with them.
TIP! Your training sessions must be long enough for your dog to learn the desired behavior but not so long that he becomes bored. Start out training for just a few minutes each day and work up to fifteen minutes or so over time. If your dog looses interest, it is time to stop.
When you give commands and corrections they should be short and straight to the point. Do not drag on in a rant to your dog about how bad they are. Your dog won’t understand what you are saying. It will only have negative feelings about that part of the training. Inform them of your disapproval and move on. In addition, use an appropriate voice volume when you give commands, so that it grabs the dog’s attention and lets it know that you are serious. I have found that timing is important when you’re training your dog. You desire to spend time in training them, but you also do not want to go overboard. You should not over do it, train in small time increments. Observe when your dog starts to stop paying attention during the session. Continuing to train past that point will accomplish nothing. A healthy diet is essential for your dog. The old saying, “You are what you eat” applies to dogs too. A poor diet can negatively affect the dog in various ways. It can negatively impact a dog’s health and disposition. I have found that simply improving the diet that the dog gets, may bring about a great improvement in how receptive they will be when it comes to training.
Are you house training your dog? If so, then understand that the food and water they consume must come out at some point. To have your dog on a consistent bathroom schedule, have him or her eating quality food about two or three times every day, at the exact same time. Doing so allows you to gain a clearer picture of when your puppy might need to relieve himself outdoors.
TIP! Pay attention to how much time you spend training in one session. A long, uninterrupted training period is going to exhaust your dog’s attention.
Make sure that your dog stays awake and active. Dogs can get bored easily. A bored dog will try and find something interesting to do, and training is not usually interesting. You will find that a happy and well-exercised dog is an easily trained dog. Lead your dog on the path to fitness by walking or jogging every day. As you can see, pets are trained for many different reasons. Dogs are very well known for how much they wish to please those around them, which makes having one trained in that manner a good dog to be around. I believe that this article, hopefully, provided you with some suggestions on how to train your dog well. Teaching With Reinforcement
TIP! Your vet can give you some good advice on what you should feed your dog. Following his advice on the different foods for different stages of your dog’s life can avoid sickness and stomach upset.  As with most things, you get what you pay for.
I believe that dogs can be a tremendous source of joy in anyone’s life, provided proper care methods are observed. Learning about his needs is the key to your dog being healthy and happy. I hope you will continue reading this article to learn what needs to be done if you want to have a good relationship with your dog.
TIP! Avoid pushing things that your dog dislikes onto him. If you have food or treats your dog does not like, leave it alone.
Did you know that your dog needs to have an annual checkup, the same as you do. Because your dog is unable to speak, you may not know for sure when your dog feels sick or has an injury. A checkup once a year will help diagnose any problems.
TIP! The daily brushing of your dog’s coat is beneficial, in more ways that just stopping constant shedding. Their coat will become shinier when they are brushed everyday.
You should really practice training your dog in your house or yard. This prevents some of the problems that are associated with training around a lot of other people. People will only distract your dog, making it more difficult to train him.
TIP! When it comes to buying food for your dog, don’t skimp by buying the cheap stuff. In the long run, it is beneficial to be feeding your dog high quality, nutritious food.
Whenever your dog performs a good action, such as sitting or staying, give it praise and rewards. Always make sure your dog knows when they perform a behavior you wish to see repeated. This shows your pup that when things are done right, he will be rewarded. It doesn’t always have to be a treat. Praise is a great reward.
TIP! What new laws or regulations concerning pets will affect you? Keep your eye on potentially-restrictive legislation regarding dogs. Sometimes people might misjudge a breed.
If you are not sure how often you should feed your dog, ask your vet. Dog food packages provide guidelines, but they can be wrong for your particular pet and lead to obesity. Speak with a vet to see what you should be feeding your dog according to its needs. Just like with people, you need to keep an eye on their body weight.
TIP! Always make sure to keep your dog’s annual vet visits. Your vet can notice health ailments long before you can, and many of the tests he can perform will help to detect or prevent things like diabetes, kidney or thyroid problems.
If your dog will be outside, he will need a dog house. This is especially important during wet weather. Make sure that your dog has a spacious home that they can go into to get out of the weather. You should include blankets in the dog house so that the dog will be comfortable. Let the dog come into the house as much as is possible and try to spend as much time as you can with the dog. Dogs thrive on human companionship.
TIP! It is a common occurrence for a dog to get a cut after stepping on glass or other debris. If your dog has a tiny cut, use an antiseptic to wash it with and then bandage the area.
A dog’s bad behavior should always be corrected whenever you see the first signs of it. Ignoring it for any length of time will only make it that much more difficult to contain later and you never know what could happen as a result of it now. Also, the dog may end up hurting someone, perhaps even you.
TIP! Some vitamins can be bad for your dog’s health. Your dog doesn’t need a vitamin supplement if he is eating a well-balanced diet.
Daily brushing brings great rewards – much more than just a reduction in shedding. It leaves them looking gorgeous, for one thing. The brushing motion encourages distribution of the skin’s oil, leaving the coat healthy, soft and glossy.
TIP! You should take the time to reflect about your lifestyle before getting a dog. Many people romanticize having a dog, but the reality involves consistency, responsibility and commitment.
If your welcome a new dog into your family, immediately schedule a check up for him. Make an appointment as early as possible. Your vet will administer the necessary shots and make sure your dog is in good health. Talk with a vet about your dog being spayed or neutered. There are lots of homeless dogs and you don’t want to make the problem worse.
TIP! Always praise your dog when he does something good. Rewards and praise will help speed things along, and they work better than being violent.
Dogs bring great joy to the lives of many. That said, you need to be educated about what it takes to have a happy, healthy dog. With some luck, this article will give you some great information on how to care for your dog. Thundershirt - Blue & White Rugby (7 sizes)

The Easter Dog

My wife and I went to visit some relatives for Easter dinner. They had an elderly beagle that was both blind and deaf. The poor old guy would bark occasionally with just a single woof. I guess he was telling everyone that he is still a watch dog even if he can’t see or hear anything. My wife and I each spent a little time petting him and scratching his back. I wasn’t really able to teach him anything. That old saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” may be appropriate here. What do you think?

Sit! Stay!

I would say that if you have a natural-born obedient dog, then consider yourself lucky. Unfortunately, the majority of dogs require some form of training. This may be needed to prevent them from destroying your home or jumping on strangers. Use the tips that follow to help your dog become a well-adjusted, happy canine. When you are crate training an indoor dog or puppy, you may try some tricks. A yummy treat can help to entice a hesitant dog into the crate. Put the treat in an close the door. This will make the puppy want to be let inside the crate to get the bone. When he finally goes into the crate to retrieve the toy, shower the dog with praise. Timing is everything in dog training. While you want to devote a good amount of time to it, you do not want to go too far. If the dog looses interest, you won’t accomplish anything. Start with a quick session initially, adding time with successive training periods. When the animal appears to lose interest, you will know which duration produces the best results for your sessions.
TIP! Be careful of disrupting your training time with rewards. If the dog follows commands correctly, you should reward the animal only if it is calm. Your dog will learn what you expect.
Create a calm environment whenever you enter the room the dog is in. Play time is good to have with your pet, however, your dog should remain calm when you enter the room. Try not to acknowledge your pet when you set foot into rooms, and this can imbue calm environments most of the time, since your dog will wait for you to start play time. Consistency is of the utmost importance when it comes to crate training. When you allow the puppy to come out of the crate, you have to immediately and without fail give him the chance to relieve his bladder. When done with consistency, your dog will trust you and wait for the right time to relieve himself. I believe you should keep treats on hand to reward your pet for doing good. Start by getting the dog to lay down. Then, hold the treat over your dog’s head and swipe it above and around his head, causing him to roll over. They should follow that treat with their nose, which should cause them to roll over. Upon seeing him roll over, issue the command. You can then repeat the command to the point where he rolls over without the added incentive of a treat. It may take some time for your dog to perfect the trick, but it’s a popular move and one that is sure to impress others. When training, find a verbal clue your pet can understand so they will know exactly when to do as you say. “yes” is a great bridge word between the dogs positive accomplishment and the reward they receive.
TIP! When training your pet, you must be patient. This keeps everyone happy and frustration at bay.
Even if you have a particularly disobedient dog, have no fear. Almost any dog can be trained if the proper techniques are used. Use these tips to ease training efforts and boost your dog’s results. Clicker Training: The Perfect Foundation Book & DVD bundle
TIP! Don’t give table scraps to your dog. This teaches dogs bad habits.
I really believe there is nothing like a dog if you want affection, love, and loyalty. A dog makes a great family pet, or a companion for someone who lives alone. If you’d like to better care for a dog, be sure to use these tips.
TIP! Try not to buy low quality food for your dog. Less expensive brands of dog food often contain artificial coloring, additives, preservatives and so on that can be very bad for your dog. You get what you pay for.
When you take your dog with you on vacation, take a picture and save it to your phone. This way, if you find out that your dog went missing along the way, you will have a recent picture that you can show to people when you go out to look for you pet.
TIP! Your dog will need a dog house if it is going to be outside in colder temperatures. If your dog happens to get his feet wet for a long period of time in cold temperatures, it can cause health complications.
Never allow your dog to leave your yard without a leash even if he seems very trustworthy and calm. There are quite a few things that could cause your dog to run off unexpectedly. You are responsible for anything your dog does, as well as for his safety.
TIP! Don’t force your dog to do anything. If you have purchased treats the dog does not appear to enjoy, do not force the issue.
It is a good idea to use hand signals when you are trying to train your dog, instead of just relying on verbal commands. Your dog might learn commands more easily using this approach. Not every dog will learn the same, so try different techniques with your dog.

Dog Needs

TIP! You should always trim your nails. Once they get to a length where they are curling under, this is likely to cause your dog some pain.
If your dog needs to be outside during cold months, buy him a house or build him one. Your dog could get sick if he is left outside in the cold or if the ground is wet. Your dog needs a space that is dry and provides him with adequate shelter.
TIP! Keep the fur around your pup’s paws trimmed so that it does not get matted. You should use a comb to straighten out the hair a bit before trying to trim it.
If you want a dog but don’t know if you can handle the responsibility, start out as a short-term foster home. Thousands of animals are living in shelters, which is less than ideal for many dogs, while they wait for a chance to be adopted. You can give one a home for a while to help the cause and you can also keep it if you like it!
TIP! Make sure you heed the vet’s instructions when it comes to medications and special care requirements. There’s a reason dogs have to endure uncomfortable situations like a cone-collar! When a vet makes a recommendation, it is for the safety and health of your dog; if you ignore them, that can lead to trouble.
If your vet has given you medication or special instructions for your dog, make sure that you follow them. Dogs may resist wearing cones, but they are there for good reason. Vets are professionals who have experience dealing with your situation.
TIP! Playing music in your home when you leave for your job may help your dog with separation anxiety. Your dog will appreciate the company of the sound, and he will feel more secure.
Love your dog! In life, it is far too common to give bad behavior more attention than good. Your dog will develop more behavioral problems if you adopt this attitude. Try to give your dog praise five times more than the amount of time you scold him. This will make it more likely that your dog will behave well.
TIP! If your female dog is in heat be cautious – she could very easily become pregnant. A male is able to smell her from as much as five miles in the distance! This could also lead to unplanned pregnancy, or cause other dogs in the area to fight.
There are plenty of things involved in properly taking care of a dog. It’s not just going for walks and providing food. It is important that you have good information when it comes to dog care. Then you and your pet can have a long and happy life together. Thundershirt - Blue & White Rugby (7 sizes)
