Help! My Dog Hates His Dog Crate

If you are trying to get your dog to use a crate, it is important to recognize that it might take some time for this to happen. Most dogs really don't like crates, so they need time to overcome their fears.

A good way to get started is put feed in a dog crate in an effort for him to eat his meals whenever he is hungry. If not, you could place the meals in front of the crate until the dog become comfortable with it. You should not close the door if your dog enters because you don't want to scare him.

When you are giving the dog a new play thing you can toss this to the back section to get him further inside. Once your dog begins to get comfortable in the crate, try to shut the door now and again, but never latch it if he is eating. It is important to leave the door unlatch as this will allow him to open it when he wants to come out.

When you start to latch the door this must only be done for some seconds to one minute. Once again, this will help your dog to relax as you gradually go through with this process. As soon as you allow the dog outside, try to make a big fuss about it by playing, praising and telling him that he is good boy. By doing this he will be happy whenever he comes outside.

However, you should not make a big fuss when you are putting him inside the crate. If you want him to love the crate it is important to be very strict whenever he has to go inside. In the event that you are emotional when he has to go inside this will only cause him to become stressed out.

Keep in mind that the best way to get a dog to love crates is to portray this as a fun place and you can accomplish this by integrating the things that he loves.
